Bailey Hall at Cornell University - Ithaca, NY
Asbestos Survey | LBP | Hazardous Waste | Abatement Design | Lead Remediation Design
Constructed in 1913, Bailey Hall is Cornell University’s largest auditorium, with 1324 seats. In addition to its use as an auditorium, Bailey Hall is used for the Bailey Hall Classical Concert Series, Cornell Orchestra concerts, a lecture hall for large courses, visiting speakers, and dance, theater and music groups. Bailey Hall was designed by Edward Green, a fine example of early 20th century classical revival architecture, with its colonnaded portico and monumental stairs that lead to the main office. Due to the age of the building, extensive work was required to renovate their building. Watts identified asbestos-containing materials, surfaces covered with lead-based paint, and hazardous waste/contaminated materials prior to the project to secure the safety and health of building occupants and workers during the rehabilitation. Watts developed asbestos and lead specification sections and drawings for the contract documents. During the abatement portion of the rehabilitation, Watts provided on-site oversight of the asbestos contractor’s daily activities for compliance with regulations and the specifications.
