Erie County Courthouse - Buffalo, NY
Asbestos Design | Asbestos Project Monitoring | Air Sampling
This extensive renovation project included three buildings at a total cost of more than $50 million. The approximate cost of abatement was over $6 million. The majority of the abatement was in the Courthouse Annex. Asbestos-containing sprayed on fireproofing, floor tile and other materials throughout the eight-story structure were removed. Heightened attention to detail was required in the design and during abatement due to the sensitivity of performing abatement work within a fully operational public building, e.g. scaffolding was installed in the corridors to allow abatement to occur above, while building occupants walked below. In addition to the design, Watts provided oversight throughout the asbestos-abatement portion of the project. The asbestos abatement was an integral part of the renovation project. We coordinated abatement activities with the Contractors, Erie County Department of Public Works, the Architect, Construction Manager and many occupants of the building. Asbestos abatement at the site went on for almost two years.
