Air Sampling

The former Bethlehem Steel Lackawanna Coke Division (LCD) site was being demolished for future development. As part of this effort and to comply with applicable federal and New York State regulations, the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) needed to be determined at the LCD site prior to its demolition. Watts was retained to perform a pre-demolition asbestos survey and report prior to demolition as well as various asbestos abatement consulting services including development of asbestos abatement bid documents. Part of the design services included the writing of 22 site-specific variance petitions and amendments to seek relief from New York State Industrial Code Rule 56, which were accepted by the New York State Department of Labor. Watts was responsible for administering the contract during construction, providing the air sampling required by New York State regulations and monitoring the abatement work for compliance. The project was completed in the fall of 2006.
